By now it’s routine for us to hear about jobs going overseas, or certain aspects of manufacturing or customer service being outsourced to countries like China and India. But now outsourcing professional services like accounting, engineering, and LPO work is becoming big business.

The professional services rendered from overseas typically have been restricted to less sophisticated work, but the complexity of the projects is increasing as these contractors prove their worth. Quality of work is, of course, a big concern. But the verdict seems to be that many U.S. companies have been able to get high quality services overseas, leading to them increasing the amount of work outsourced.

As the ailing U.S. economy prompts companies to cut costs, it also has spawned legal problems. As a result, clients are pressuring the law firms they hire to trim fees. While it will take some time to determine whether BPO services will benefit from the down economy, as many contend, at least one outsourcing sector is gaining lots of business right now. As The Wall Street Journal reports, Indian legal processing outsourcing companies are being hired to help U.S. banks prepare for lawsuits filed by homeowners, investors and shareholders in the wake of the subprime-mortgage crisis.

That means more routine work like legal research, due diligence and Legal document review is being done in India at roughly half the cost as in the U.S., outsourcers say. Starting associates at big U.S. firms often bill more than $200 an hour. But an experienced lawyer in India bills at $75 to $100 an hour, roughly the bottom rate for some U.S. paralegals.

Legal Process outsourcing in India currently draws around $250 million in annual revenue, analysts estimate. That’s a tiny portion of the $40 billion in revenue for India’s technology-outsourcing firms. But legal outsourcing is growing quickly, while tech-outsourcing firms are struggling to grow.

Most of the Indian BPO and LPO firms provide proficient Legal research, Analysis and legal analytics services to a number of global law firms and private attorneys. Their experienced, professional and well-trained team can effectively manage all your Legal Research and Analysis requirements.
